Creamy pasta with cheddar and parmesan, baked until golden and bubbling. Comfort food in its purest form.
Ingredients
- 300 g (10.5 oz) elbow macaroni
- 200 g (7 oz) cheddar cheese
- 50 g (1.75 oz) grated parmesan
- 4 tbsp butter
- 1 cup milk
- 1 tsp cornstarch
- Salt and pepper
- Oregano
- Fresh basil (optional, to garnish)

Preheat
Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).

Cook the pasta
Boil the macaroni in salted water for 8 minutes (al dente). Drain and set aside.

Cheese sauce
Heat the milk in a pot over medium heat. Before it boils, add the cheddar, butter, parmesan, oregano and cornstarch. Stir until it becomes a smooth, creamy sauce.

Combine and bake
Season the sauce with salt and pepper. Add the pasta and stir. Pour into a baking dish and top with extra parmesan.

Oven
Bake for 10 min at 200°C (390°F) until the top turns golden. Garnish with basil.
Tips
- The cornstarch keeps the sauce from breaking and makes it creamier.
- If you don't have cheddar, you can mix gouda + parmesan.
- Crispy bacon on top before baking: incredible.
