Tequila, Cointreau and lime juice with a salt rim. Mexico's most famous cocktail. Shaken ice-cold, served straight up in a frosted glass.
Ingredients
- 50 ml (1.7 oz) white tequila
- 25 ml (0.85 oz) Cointreau or triple sec
- Juice of 1 lime (or lemon)
- Coarse salt for the rim
- Ice
Preparation
-
1
Run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass. Dip the rim in coarse salt.
-
2
In a shaker with ice: tequila + Cointreau + lime juice.
-
3
Shake hard for 10 to 15 seconds until the shaker is very cold.
-
4
Strain into the glass over ice. Garnish with a lime wheel.
Tips
- Lime gives a better result than lemon: more aromatic and less acidic.
- White tequila for the classic version; reposado gives a more complex flavor.
- Frozen version: blend everything together with 2 cups of ice.
