Premium gin with quality tonic water and a garnish that elevates it. The quality of the tonic matters as much as the gin.
Ingredients
- 50 ml (1.7 oz) gin (Hendrick's, Bombay, Beefeater, or whatever you have)
- 150 ml (5 oz) premium tonic water (Fever Tree, Schweppes or Q)
- Large ice cubes
- Garnish of choice: cucumber, rosemary, lemon peel, or juniper berries
Preparation
-
1
A well-chilled balloon glass. Fill it with large ice cubes.
-
2
Add the gin.
-
3
Pour the cold tonic water slowly down the side of the glass to preserve the bubbles.
-
4
Stir just twice with a long spoon. Add the garnish and serve.
Tips
- Balloon glass + large ice cubes = less dilution, colder drink.
- Always pour the tonic down the side, never straight onto the ice: it preserves the bubbles.
- Garnish according to the gin: cucumber for Hendrick's, lemon for Beefeater, rosemary for botanical gins.
